Dessert on the Cipriani’s!

In case you didn’t notice, I LOVE food. I especially love dessert. I even more so appreciate free food. The Saturday before Father’s Day, I had it all! For a Father’s day celebration, my mother, sister, cousin, uncle, and aunt united for dinner at Carmine’s (one of my fave restaurants ever!) While in the men’s room, my dad ran into a few co-owners of the Cipriani restaurants while cleaning prime rib sauce off of his shirt. After a few laughs  and jokes (of which my Dad is great at), they made friends (another thing my Dad is fabulous at) and the guys insisted that we order dessert. So we did. Much to our surprise, we didn’t order enough so the Cipriani dudes came back and practically ordered us to order a dessert each! With desserts at an average price of $20, he wanted to see some real money on his tab for us. We ended up with the most delicious tiramisu I had ever had, 2 strawberry shortcakes, a fresh fruit platter, and canolis. You know this was very close to heaven for me.

Old fave: Fruit Platter  New fave: Tiramisu

Also, if you ever stop by Carmine’s for grubbing, make sure to order the Fried Calamari. It’s so tender and scrumptious, and has a marinara dipping sauce that you will dream of many nights afterwards.

Celeb Sighting: Tracy Morgan

Posted by NeiaNeia on June 25, 2010

Pants on the ground? Pants on the ground?

I ran into Tracy Morgan at the Dallas BBQs restaurant in the Bronx a few days ago! I mentioned this via Twitter as soon as it happened, but here is a little more detail. (BTW I love BBQs for the chilli and the Texas sized Peach Margarita, yum!) I can’t tell what excited me more, my giant drink or seeing Tracy. Okay, seeing Tracy I guess, since I can always find a giant drink. Initially, I was kind of curious as to what he was doing all the way up in the semi-hood, then I remembered that he is a round-the-way guy, having been born in the Bronx, and raised in the Bx and Brooklyn. From what I hear, he is sighted often in the Bronx. Figures.

I have nothing bad to say about him. I like him. He’s funny. And I like him even more now, because to top it all off, he seemed very humble and genuinely nice to the fans that walked up and wanted a picture, or to just meet him. He didn’t act super-celebby at all. No queening out, drawing attention to himself, no flashy cars and clothes. No buying out the bar and acting like he got it like that. He didn’t tell fans to back off or give them a dirty look. Even if you just said hi, he was the first to reach out his hand to shake yours. He snapped a picture with a graduate that was celebrating his graduation, congratulated him thoroughly, and told him to keep doing big things. I didn’t bother him for a picture but I did sneak one for you guys, before everyone noticed it was him so that I wouldnt have a bunch of strangers in my pic. Me and my 3 dates of the evening passed by and waved/said hi, and he made sure to shake everyone one of our hands, so I got a little stardust on me if you want any. No, I don’t know what he ate or drink, though I usually do check out what other patrons are noshing on. Tracy was meeting up with and chatting with another guy. And this random chick that wouldn’t leave him alone for almost 15-20 mins. He didn’t seem phased. I think she thought it was payday.

No word on the location of her pants.

Drake’s NoN-Concert

Posted by NeiaNeia on June 25, 2010

Move it along. There was nothing to see here. At least there was no Drake to see here. There was an exodus of HipHop lovers demanding for the weather to drop 10 degrees and for Drake to hurry up and come out so that we could hear good music and get the hell out of the crowd. However, Drake never came…blaming the cops for not letting him out. It wasn’t the cops though, it was the people.

You know how you try to gather a bunch of people to sway to the same good music and be united on sort of the same cause that is sung through the songs, yet people lose patience somewhere along the way and get antsy? Yeah. People lost patience and started acting out…fighting over space (as if anyone could own any personal space at that moment) and whatever else nonsense that could have been ignored. Chairs were thrown from balconies, bottles were thrown through the crowd. And the concert was canceled.

Oh well. Thank goodness I made it home safe, and with a few new friends. That’s how a concert is supposed to be. With music though.

Bonus vid of an amateur stunt devil at the concert!

The concert has been on the hush-hush but now you have the info.

If you were a Degrassi-Jimmy fan, rock to his music, or have taken him on as a faux-beau…maybe you want to see him perform.

For FREE.

Want his album?

Thank me later. ;)

In the words of the fabulous Wendy Williams, if it’s for free, it’s for me!

Event: Sun 5/16 Veggie Pride Parade in New York City

Posted by NeiaNeia on May 15, 2010

Im not, and probably will never be, a vegetarian or vegan because I love bacon. But I also love vegetables. Actually, I LOVE vegetables. I was never the kid who wanted candy, I wanted carrots, cucumbers, and broccolli (my fave!). I don’t even need a dip (though I love dip too) to enjoy it. Yea yea…it’s a little nerdy but I think this parade sounds so entertaining.

The Veggie Pride Parade is a parade in NYC that celebrates and encourages the eating of these dirt grown delicious plants. It’s perfect if you need to persuade your little ones that veggies can be fun. Did I mention exhibitors? This mean FREE STUFF and FREE FOOD….vegan food, but food none-the-less.

I have a question though…other than being perplexed about fat/obese vegetarians and vegans (How much veggie are you eating and are they deep fried?) but I am also confused about vegans eating things that aren’t meat…but are shaped like meat. What the hell is that about? If you don’t like eating chicken, why is your tofu shaped like it?

Anyways, it sounds fun. Check it out if you have nothing to do. It’s supposed to be nice out and Union Square is a good place to be in good weather.

I hope PETA peeps don’t act out, and no one marches with posters of dead pig heads.
